Tombstone Tuesday – Delilah E. Addy

For today’s Tombstone Tuesday post, I would like to share the picture of the tombstone of my great grand-aunt, Delilah Elizabeth (McCormack) Addy. She is buried in the McCormack family plot in the Otter Lake Cemetery in Otter Lake, Michigan.

What  I can tell you about her is that she died, I am guessing, unexpectedly, in Schenectady, New York. I am only guessing on why she is buried in Otter Lake rather than Schenectady where her immediate family was. The reason I am guessing is that her parents, Michael and Catherine (especially) and older brother, William were living all in Otter Lake. My (unsourced) notes state that she died of Lobar pneumonia.

This is about all I have for Delilah. I wish I had more about her.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tombstone Tuesday – Merle Hemingway McCormack

For today’s “Tombstone Tuesday” post, I would like to share the tombstone of Merle Hemingway McCormack (yes, we are related to THOSE Hemingways!). Merle was the oldest child of William E. and Lavina Jane (Hemingway) McCormack. His younger siblings were Alta Lyleth McCormack (my grandmother) and Ruth Eleanor McCormack.

Merle was born on 18 Apr 1900 in Otter Lake, Michigan and died on 3 Jan 1959 in Grayling, Michigan. He died of asphyxiation in a cabin that he either owned or rented.

Tombstone Tuesday – The Addy tombstone

For today’s Tombstone Tuesday post, I would like to share a picture of a tombstone for one of the Addys that is buried in the Mount Moriah Cemetery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

An Addy gravestone

An Addy gravestone [1]

Can’t see it? I can barely see it either. Look REAL hard in the middle of the picture. You’ll see some stone. Unfortunately, a LOT of Mount Moriah Cemetery is like this picture. I wish I knew if the tombstone is for one of the Addys or does it represent all of the Addys buried there.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tombstone Tuesday – Lura Grace (Roys) McCormack

Today, I would like to honor Lura Grace (Roys) McCormack. It show it on her tombstone, but she was born on 6 Oct 1858 in Belleville, Michigan. She married William E. McCormack on 29 Nov 1883 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She then died on 2 Sep 1895 in Otter Lake, Michigan. I don’t have a photo of Lura but I do have her memorial book.

There is one thing that I wish I could do. I don’t like the fact that her tombstone is partially covered by the ground as you can see. I wish someone could remove the dirt.

Thank you for stopping by!

Tombstone Tuesday – Lura Vae Addy Nilsen

For today’s Tombstone Tuesday post, I would like to share the picture of the tombstone of Lura Vae Addy Nilsen.

Lura Vae Addy Nilsen

Lura Vae Addy Nilsen [1]

Lura Vae is the daughter of Delilah McCormack Addy and Smith Addy. Her grandparents are Michael and Catherine McCormack. What little I know of her is that she was a nurse and cat breeder. She is buried in Highland View Cemetery,
Big Rapids, Michigan.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tombstone Tuesday – Paul Bird

Today, I would like to share the picture of the tombstone of Paul L. Bird. Or should I say, Commander Paul L. Bird. He served 24 years in the United States Navy. He was Michael  and Catherine McCormack’s great grandson.

Tombstone Tuesday – Henry Peacock McCormack

Today, I would like to share the picture of the tombstone of Henry Peacock McCormack (b. 1891 – d. 1959). I have written about him a few times. His parents were John Michael McCormack and Gertrude Angeline Peacock McCormack.

Tombstone Tuesday – William E. McCormack

Today, I would like to share this photo of the tombstone of William E. McCormack, formerly of Big Creek, Michigan and late of Englewood, Florida.

The "other" William E. McCormack

The “other” William E. McCormack

This William E. McCormack is NOT my great grandfather of Otter Lake, Michigan. This William is the nephew of the other William. William’s parents are Edward J. and Elizabeth J. McCormack. I don’t know a lot about William. Some of what I do know, is that when he lived in the Big Creek area of Northern Michigan, he was a logger. I believe that he moved to Florida in his latter years for health reasons. He is buried in the Lemon Bay Historical Cemetery located in Englewood, Florida.

Thanks!

Tombstone Tuesday – Frank and Cora McCormack

Maybe I should call this Tombstoneless Tuesday?

Frank and Cora's burial plot

Frank and Cora’s burial plot [1]

Do you see what I mean? Frank and Cora do NOT have a tombstone. I have some indication, from certain papers from Frank’s probate file, that Frank or someone paid for a tombstone. If that is true, I don’t know why they don’t have one. Here is a picture of Cora. I did some pricing on a simple tombstone/marker and it would cost $600 – 800.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture of Frank.

Tombstone Tuesday – Robert McCormack

Robert Michael McCormack

Robert Michael McCormack [1]

Robert Michael McCormack is my second cousin once removed. I never met him since he died two years before I “found” his branch of the family again. As his marker states, he was a captain in the Army Air Forces during WWII and in the Air Force during Korea. According to one of his sons, he flew P-51 Mustangs (one of my favorite airplanes of all time!). He is buried, along with his wife, Jewel, in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas. Here is a picture of Robert;

Thanks cousin Robert for your service!
