Important February Dates for the McCormack Clan!

I would like to take a few minutes to remember some important events and an interesting tidbit for the members of the McCormack clan in the month of February.

1 Feb 1996 – Edna Ruth (McCormack) Hebestreit died in Mio, Michigan. Edna was the owner/operator of the McCormack General Store in Mio, Michigan. She was the youngest daughter of Edward J. and Elizabeth J. (Rohr) McCormack.

2 Feb 1904 – Ruth Eleanor (McCormack) Farrell was born in Otter Lake, Michigan. Ruth was the youngest daughter of William E. and Lavina J. (Hemingway) McCormack. She and her older sister, Alta made a trip to Europe in 1925.

3 Feb 1902 – Alta Lyleth (McCormack) Ford was born in Otter Lake, Michigan. She was the middle child of William E. and Lavina J. (Hemingway) McCormack. Alta was a teacher in the western suburbs of Detroit, Michigan.

11 Feb 2005 – Henry Davis McCormack died in El Dorado, California. He was the oldest child and son of Henry Peacock and Ethel (Davis) McCormack. One of Henry’s favorite activities was trap or skeet shooting.

11 Feb 2008 – Charles Wayne Waltz died in Reno, Nevada. He served in WWII. He was married to Gertrude “Betty” Jeanette McCormack, the first daughter and second child of Henry Peacock and Ethel (Davis) McCormack.

13 Feb 1920 – Gerald “Mac” Milton McCormack was born. “Mac” was the second son and third child of Henry Peacock and Ethel (Davis) McCormack. Gerald was an engineering genius. He worked for just over 17 years at the Ames Aeronautical Laboratory in Moffat Field near San Francisco, California.

13 Feb 2004 – Jewel Beatrice (Hassell) McCormack died in Laurel, Mississippi. Jewel married Robert Michael McCormack. They had three boys, Michael Alan, Patrick James and Robert Craig.

13 Feb 1933 – Arthur A. McCormack died in Chicago, Illinois. He was an alderman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a number of years.

15 Feb 1898 – Edward James McCormack died in Vienna Corners, Michigan. Edward and his father, Michael McCormack each had 160 acres near Mio, Michigan.

20 Feb 1933 – Maurice LeRoy “Doc” McCormack was born in Reno, Nevada. Doc was the man that helped me “discover” his branch of the family.

21 Feb 2005 – James Archer McCormack, Sr. died in Sparks, Nevada. As you can see, James is a true redhead and looks every bit Irish.

21 Feb 1909 – Margaret “Margo” Mary Helen Halm was born in Saginaw, Michigan. She was the second wife of Merle H. McCormack.merle-and-margo22 Feb 1944 – Leon Ray Ingleright III was born in Niles, Michigan. Leon was the grandson of Katherine Fidelia (McCormack) and Leon Ray Ingleright, Sr. Leon’s son was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.

28 Feb 2006 – Phyllis Louise Trevellyan died in McLean, Virginia. She was the wife of Robert Orrin Addy, the adopted step-grandson of Delilah Elizabeth (McCormack) Addy.

Important January dates for the McCormack clan!

Hello! I know that it has been quite a long time since I last posted a story here. Sometimes life gets in the way of blogging. I would like to take a few minutes to remember some important events for the members of the McCormack clan in the month of January.

1 Jan 1979: James Archer McCormack married Lois Elizabeth VanMeter in Sparks, Nevada. James was the son of HP & Ethel (Davis) McCormack.

3 Jan 1959: Merle and Margaret “Margo” (Yale) McCormack died near Grayling, Michigan. At the time of their deaths, Merle was the President of Baker Business College in Flint, Michigan. Merle was the son of William & Lavina McCormack.

8 Jan 1942: Violet Ingleright (daughter of Katherine Fidelia McCormack & Leon R. Ingleright) married Charles A. Lastner. She received a degree in Music from the University of Michigan.

15 Jan 1978: Ethel Davis died in Reno, Nevada. Ethel was the wife of Henry Peacock McCormack. She was also the mother of six boys and four girls.

16 Jan 1884: Alfred Reinhardt Coon was born in Sydney, Ohio. Alfred was the husband of Grace Ellen McCormack, the daughter of William E. McCormack. At the time of his death, Alfred was a doctor.

20 Jan 1914: Lura Grace Coon was born in Dewitt, Michigan. She was the daughter of Grace Ellen (McCormack) and Alfred R. Coon.

22 Jan 1927: Gertrude Peacock McCormack died in Reno, Nevada. Gertrude was the wife of John Michael McCormack.

22 Jan 1947: William “Bill” D. McCormack married Suzanne Mae Smith. William was the son of HP & Ethel (Davis) McCormack.

25 Jan 1924: Robert Michael McCormack was born in Sparks, Nevada. Robert was the son of HP & Ethel (Davis) McCormack. He was also the older brother of William. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the end of WWII and a pilot in the USAF during the Korean War.

26 Jan 2008: Mildred Francis Boston died in Lowell, Massachusetts. Mildred was the first wife of Maurice “Doc” McCormack.

26 Jan 1963: Katherine Fidelia McCormack died in Niles, Michigan. Katherine was the youngest daughter of Michael and Catherine (Payne) McCormack.

29 Jan 1940: Gertrude “Betty” Jeanette McCormack married Charles Wayne Waltz in Minden, Nevada. “Betty” was the second child and first daughter of HP & Ethel (Davis) McCormack.

30 Jan 1903: Harold Hebestreit was born in Redford, Michigan. Harold was the husband of Edna Ruth McCormack, the daughter of Edward J. & Elizabeth J. McCormack. She was also the long time owner of the McCormack General store in Mio, Michigan.

31 Jan 1881: Hiram “High” J. Stevens was born in Hazelton Township, Michigan. Hiram was the husband of Mae Ethel McCormack. She was the older sister of Edna. Hiram was also a veteran of WWI serving as a corporal in the American Expeditionary Forces.

December dates for the McCormack clan

2 Dec 1996William “Bill” McCormack died in Eugene, Oregon. William was the sixth of ten children of Henry P. and Ethel (Davis) McCormack.

2 Dec 1941Depsy Ann Crain was born in Placer, California. Depsy is the wife of a third cousin who is still alive and therefore I don’t wish to name him. I think you can tell what she like to do in her spare time. You can learn more about Depsy at my Find-A-Grave memorial for her.

3 Dec 1892 – Ethel Davis was born in Anderson, California. Ethel was the wife of Henry Peacock McCormack, the son of John Michael McCormack. Henry was my first cousin twice removed. 3 Dec 1988 – Ethel Rebecca McCormack died. She passed away in Sonoma, California. Ethel was the daughter of Henry P. and Ethel (Davis) McCormack. Will you look at that smile? I think great smiles run in the family!

5 Dec 1979Mae Ethel McCormack died in West Branch, Michigan. At the time, she lived near Mio, Michigan. She was the daughter of Edward J. and Elizabeth J. (Rohr) McCormack. For most of her life, she was a teacher in the Mio and Comins area schools. She was married to Hiram J. Stevens. At this time, I don’t have a picture of Mae.

5 Dec 1957 – Elizabeth Petronella (Dornauf) McCormack died in Ithaca. She lived there with  her sister-in-law, Margaret McCormack, the widow of Henry McCormack. Elizabeth was the wife of Arthur McCormack.

7 Dec 1898 – Charles Harold Barnes was born in Saginaw, Michigan. Charles was the first child of Maria “Minnie” McCormack and Charles Eli Barnes. He was my first cousin twice removed. 9 Dec 1917 – Frank J. McCormack died in Kankakee, Illinois. I really don’t know much about Frank. I do know that he worked for the Illinois Central railroad and was based in Kankakee, Illinois. He didn’t have any children. 

9 Dec 1886 – Edward J. McCormack and Elizabeth J. Rohr were married in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Edward’s younger brother Henry was one of the two witnesses.

9 Dec 1963 – Maria “Minnie” McCormack died. At the time of her death, she had been living with her younger sister, Katherine Ingleright in Niles, Michigan. Please check out her Find-A-Grave memorial
9 Dec 1894 – Donald J. McCormack was born in Lewiston, Michigan. Donald was the third child of Edward James McCormack and Elizabeth Jane Dimick. He was a corporal in the US Army during WWI. He also worked as a logger in Northern Michigan around the Mio area and helped out on the family farm in his younger days. You can see his more about Donald at my Find-A-Grave memorial for him. He was my first cousin twice removed.
11 Dec 1959 – Henry Peacock McCormack died in Fresno, California. Henry was the only son of John Michael and Gertrude (Peacock) McCormack. As a youth, he was something of a mechanical genius. He also experimented with early motorcycles.henry-the-aeroplane

13 Dec 1942 – Gerald “Bum/Mac” Milton McCormack married Elizabeth “Libby” Lee Heaton. According to one his sons, Gerald was a mechanical genius having many patents in aeronautical and structural engineering.

16 Dec 1903 – Arthur Willard Farrell was born in Marinette County, Wisconsin. Arthur was the husband of my great-grandaunt, Ruth Eleanor McCormack. You can learn more about Arthur at my Find-A-Grave memorial for him and at my blog post, “An “Art Deco” pose!
17 Dec 1941 – Charles E. Barnes died in Ashtabula, Ohio. Charles was the former(?) husband of Maria “Minnie” McCormack. I say former(?) because I have conflicting information on the status of their marriage. Some records say divorced and other say widowed. Anyway, he was a sailor/Captain of various ships on the Great Lakes. Please check out his Find-A-Grave memorial.
22 Dec 1898 – John Michael McCormack was born and died in Reno, Nevada. John Michael was second son and child of John Michael and Gertrude Angeline (Peacock) McCormack. John, unfortunately, died on the day of his birth. It isn’t known if he was born alive and died sometime after birth or if he was stillborn. You can see more at my Find-A-Grave memorial for him.
23 Dec 1937 – Dorothy Ellen Wade married Henry Davis McCormack. They married in Reno, Nevada. Have you seen a more happy looking couple? No wonder that they were married for 64 years! 

28 Dec 1948 – Edward James Dorstewitz was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Edward was a Vietnam War veteran who died of Cancer due to exposure to Agent Orange. He was married to a third cousin who is still alive and therefore I don’t wish to name her. You can learn more about Edward at my Find-A-Grave memorial for him.
29 Dec 1926 – Merle H. McCormack married Lois Muriel Baker. They got married in Flint, Michigan.

1 Sep 1824 – Michael McCormack was born. I am not sure where in Ireland Michael was born although I suspect that he was born somewhere in County Kilkenny.

2 Sep 1895 – Lura Grace Roys died. Lura was the first wife of my great-grandfather, William E. McCormack.

7 Sep 1871 – Charles Eli Barnes was born in Algonac, Michigan. He would become a ship captain on the Great Lakes. He would also marry Maria “Minnie” McCormack.
8 Sep 1896 – Lucille May McCormack was born in AuSable, Iosco County, Michigan. She was the daughter of Henry Thomas and Minnie (Van Wormer) McCormack.
9 Sep 1901 – Charles Arthur Barnes was born. He was the second son of Charles E. and Maria “Minnie” (McCormack) Barnes.
14 Sep 1920 – Henry Thomas McCormack married Margaret Iseman Naugle. It was the second marriage for both Henry and Margaret.
14 Sep 1900 – Dudley B. Palmer was born in Big Creek Twp., located in Oscoda County, Michigan. He would marry Lura Maude McCormack, the daughter of Edward James and Elizabeth Jane (Rohr) McCormack.
15 Sep 1937 – Richard Curtis Ford was born in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of Aubrey B. and Alta Lyleth (McCormack) Ford. He was a twin, the other being my father.
16 Sep 1900 – Charles Harold Barnes died. He was the first born son of Charles E. and Maria “Minnie” (McCormack) Barnes.
16 Sep 2006 – Paul Lloyd Bird died in Earleton, Florida. He rose to be a Commander in the U.S. Navy. He was the grandson of Henry Thomas McCormack.
18 Sep 2007 – Robert Michael McCormack died in Laurel, Mississippi. He was one of six grandsons of John Michael and Gertrude (Peacock) McCormack. He flew a P-51D Mustang at the end of WWII and during the Korean War.
21 Sep 1895 – Roy D. Ellingham was born somewhere in Illinois. He was the husband of Lura Grace Coon, the granddaughter of William E. and Lura Grace (Roys) McCormack.
23 Sep 1928 – Ethel Rebecca McCormack was born in Reno, Nevada. She was one of four granddaughters of John Michael and Gertrude (Peacock) McCormack. She also had a very special smile.
24 Sep 2007 – Leon Ray Ingleright III died in Cassopolis, Michigan. He was the grandson of Katherine Fidelia (McCormack) Ingleright.
25 Sep 2012 – Richard Curtis Ford died in Port Angeles, Washington. He worked in the timber industry all his life in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state.
26 Sep 1940 – Dorothy Ellen McCormack was born in Reno, Nevada. Her parents were Henry Davis and Dorothy Ellen (Wade) McCormack.
26 Sep 1853 – Michael McCormack married Catherine Payne in Kilkenny, Ireland. They were married at St. Marys church in Kilkenny. One of the witnesses is a Margaret Payne. It is possible that she was related to Catherine somehow. The exact relationship is not known at this time.
30 Sep 1870 – Leon Ray Ingleright was born in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He was married to Katherine Fidelia McCormack, the youngest daughter and child of Michael and Catherine (Payne) McCormack. He was a doctor and as an interesting sidetone, he was attending/signing physician for the unfortunate death of Charles H. Barnes, the first born son of Maria “Minnie” (McCormack) Barnes, the older sister of his wife. He was also the first of four Leon Ray Inglerights in his family.

1 Aug 1914 – Henry Peacock McCormack was married. His bride was Ethel Davis. They were married in Sacramento, California and would have ten children. Henry was the son of John Michael and Gertrude (Peacock) McCormack.
9 Aug 1913 – Catherine (Payne) McCormack died.
11 Aug 1999 – Arthur Willard Farrell died. He was married to Ruth Eleanor McCormack, the youngest daughter of William E. and Lavina Jane (Hemingway) McCormack. Arthur was an ad executive for the Detroit News.

16 Aug 2007 – Nella Mae McCormack died. Her parents were Henry Peacock and Ethel (Davis) McCormack.
22 Aug 1998 – Gerald “Mac” Milton McCormack died. His parents were Henry Peacock and Ethel (Davis) McCormack. He was an expert in two engineering disciplines, Mechanical and Structural.
22 Aug 1918 – Alfred Rinehart Coon died. Alfred was married to Grace Ellen McCormack, the only child of William E. McCormack and Sara Grace Roys. He was a doctor.
22 Aug 1926 – Leon Ray Ingleright, Jr. married Margaret W. Murphy. They were married in South Bend, Indiana. He was a pharmacist and operated his own pharmacy in Niles, Michigan. His parents were Leon Ray and Katherine Fidelia (McCormack) Ingleright.
23 Aug 1888 – Lura Vae Addy was born. She was born in Albert Township, Michigan. Her parents were Smith and Delilah (McCormack) Addy.
26 Aug 1874 – LaVina Jane (Hemingway) McCormack was born. She was born in Marathon Township, Michigan. Her parents were Ernest Needham and Ann Toppan (Harris) Hemingway. She was my (paternal) great-grandmother.
26 Aug 1863 – Henry McCormack was born. He was born in London, Ontario, Canada. He started out in business in Ypsilanti, Michigan with E. M. Comstock and then moved to Ithaca, Michigan. He was the son of Michael and Catherine (Payne) McCormack.
29 Aug 1894 – Frances M. Foster was born. She was married to Robert Henry Addy, the son of Delilah McCormack and Smith Addy.
