Happy Birthday, Ethel Davis McCormack!

Today is Ethel Davis McCormack’s birthday. That is, if she were alive. If she were, she would be 121 years old! Whew! Ethel was born on 3 Dec 1892 in Anderson, California to George Washington Davis and Nellie J. Branch [1]. One of Ethel’s more famous ancestors is Dolor Davis, a very early settler of America in 1635 [2].

I think that she had that smile before her ten “wonderful” kids came along! Yes, ten and they were spread out too. Her first child was born in 1917 and her last was born in 1937. On a personal note, I just wonder where she and Henry “got” the idea for such a large family. I mean, Henry was a lonely child and Ethel had a couple of brothers and sisters but nothing like the family that she would raise. I don’t think she had a paying job outside of raising her family. But I know that during World War II that she was an air raid warden in her neighborhood somewhere in the San Francisco area.

The picture above is of her and her husband, my first cousin twice removed, Henry Peacock McCormack sometime in the late 1950’s. At the time of her death on 15 Jan 1978, she had 68 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. What a bunch! Actually, I think that 68 constitutes a division! She had a remarkable life. When she was a young girl, the Wright Brothers flew their airplane. Then came two World Wars and the Great Depression. Then she saw Man land on the Moon! She certainly saw a lot of things happen.
