Tombstone Tuesday – Grace McCormack Coon Woodbury

For today’s Tombstone Tuesday post, I would like to share the picture of the tombstone of Grace Ellen McCormack Coon Woodbury. Grace is my (half) grand-aunt and she also was the first child to William E. McCormack. Her mother is the late Lura Grace Roys (b. 1858 – d. 1895).

Grace is buried in the Dewitt City Cemetery located in Dewitt, Michigan. She is buried next to her first husband, Alfred R. Coon (who was a member of the Masons before his death).

Update (3 Sep 2013 @ 11pm);

Due to a question in the comment section about the meaning of the letters inside the inverted star (pentagram), I did some research and this is what I found;

1. It is a symbol of the Order of the Eastern Star a Freemasonry-related organization.
2. Each point of the star represents a different biblical heroine; Adah, Ruth, Esther, Martha, and Electra.
3. Each point of the star represents a different quality of the biblical heroines; fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith, and love.
4. Each point of the star is also represented by a different color; red (L), blue (F), yellow (A), white (T) and green (A).
5. The initials “F.A.T.A.L.” reportedly stand for “Fairest Among Thousands Altogether Lovely.”
